System of a Down

System of a Down, started as a band called 'Soil' with Serj and Daron which then broke up. Then, System of a Down was formed by Serj in 1995 in Hollywood California. They're just another unique alternative band; really no way to describe their music. Serj Tankian sings and is on keyboard, Daron Malakian is on guitar and vocals, Shavo Odadjion is on bass and John Dolmayan is on drums; although their drummer was originally Andy Khachaturian till 1997. They all went to the same school but didn't really meet up because of age differences.

System of a Down has had five albums so far. Their first was 'System of a Down' which released in 1998. At this time, they were still doing opening acts for bands like Slayer and Incubus. After a few good years, in 2001 they released Toxicity. It came out at #1 in the U.S. and did go platinum. I'd say their most popular single then was 'Chop Suey!' that did win a Grammy that year. The next album came rather quickly, 'Steal This Album!' which looks rather like a burned CD and is quite interesting. It's only named that because they didn't like the fact of people going online to get music and downloading before their music was released to public. They had two radio singles, and one video for 'Boom!'

In 2005, Mezmerize and Hypnotise were both released, only Mezmerize came first. It had the very memorable song, 'B.Y.O.B.' which also won a Grammy and was nominated for several awards. 'Question' was their next song released. After making two singles and videos, they let out the next album the same year, 'Hypnotise,' and its first single was 'Hypnotise.' The newest single, 'Lonely Day' came out in 2006.
